Role Responsibilities (included but not limited to)
  • Assist VP of Operations in evaluating and creating/enhancing operational improvements via tools, workflows/business processes
Skills Required 
  • Good organizational, time management, and communication (oral and written) skills.
  • Knowledge of the principles, procedures, and best practices in the Operations domain.
  • Proactive self-starter who can manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Must have a strong desire to learn and be a team player.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, G-Suite, Zoom, and related software.
Time commitment on a weekly basis 2 hrs per week

Role Responsibilities (included but not limited to)
  • Assist the VP of Operations in leading the development and implementation of successful strategic volunteer engagement activities, supporting Ascend Canada, Vancouver Chapter’s organizational goals.
Skills Required 
  • Experience in volunteer management; planning, and implementing volunteer engagement opportunities
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Some supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of the principles, procedures, and best practices in the Volunteer Engagement domain.
  • Some experience in Event management and Marketing/Communications.
  • Must be thorough, attentive to detail, and comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
  • Proactive self-starter who can manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
Preferred Experience 
  • Some experience volunteering and leading volunteers preferred
Time commitment on a weekly basis 2-3 hrs per week

  • Act as a brand ambassador for Ascend – building awareness, and promoting upcoming events
  • Act as in-event ‘support’ role for at least two events per year.
  • Active participation in weekly events meetings throughout the year, contributing to ongoing events

Time commitment on a weekly basis 1 hour/ week for meetings; avg. 1-2 hrs/ week for related work. Student Intern should have sufficient capacity and project management skills to work within a service delivery timeframe of about 48 hours (e.g., responding to emails, picking up ad hoc tasks to support the team)

May-April

Role Responsibilities (included but not limited to)
  • Assist in processing invoices
  • Support the analysis of budget vs actual costs and forecasting
  • Compile information related to inquires of the Finance and Governance teams
  • Various special duties or ad hoc task as assigned by senior person
Skills Required 
  • Organized, detail-oriented, problem-solving
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Adept at using Video-conference applications
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and to interact at all organizational levels
Preferred Experience 
  • Basic finance and accounting knowledge would be an asset, but not required
  • Previous volunteer experience with a not-for-profit organization
  • Open to all years
As an Ascend intern, you will learn the following technical and leadership skills from this role
  • Gain leadership + relationship management + critical thinking skills
  • Understand how Finance and Governance functions work in a Not-for-profit organization

Duration of Role: 6-12 months

Role Responsibilities (included but not limited to)
  • Ascend Café
    • Onboard and co-ordinate with office hour hosts
    • Attend office hours to track attendance and/or liase with hosts
  • Volunteer Engagement
    • Assist in planning Volunteer Awards night
    • Assist in planning summer volunteer social
    • Develop and execute on volunteer engagement strategy
  • Support with workstream project/initiative tracker
  • Role may require additional ad hoc tasks and Operation’s Team projects as applicable throughout the duration of the internship

Role Responsibilities (included but not limited to)
  • Project Management: Plan, manage, report on and deliver annual Ascend projects as well as small initiatives in alignment with Student Affairs (SA) strategy. Facilitate lessons learned upon completion.  Assemble project teams as needed to ensure successful delivery
  • Change Management: Apply Change Management principles & practices to effectively manage change
  • Relationship Management: Provide clear and frequent communication with key stakeholders; ensure collaboration among chapters and program teams.
  • Strategic alignment: Ensure project/initiative goals are aligned to Ascend mission & mandate
  • Risk Management: Actively manage risks/issues, escalating as required, and ensure decisions are aligned to our Risk Profile.
  • Leadership: Provide direction on projects/initiatives in partnership with student chapters. Plan and suggest content for monthly SA team meetings.
  • Documentation: Maintain status reporting and logs according to the Ascend PMO standards.
  • Support: Attend and participate in quarterly SA meetings and monthly RM meetings
